Moore, Oklahoma

Moore lies only 20 miles south of where my husband and I moved from last year, so it is a place of great familiarity to me. Our hearts are sore and heavy at the devastation and loss they have suffered, not only yesterday from the EF5 tornado, but also from another F5 in 1999 and an E4 in 2003.

Here are a couple of ways to help that are near and dear to my heart:

UMCOR - United Methodist Committee on Relief will give 100% of your donation to Oklahomans devastated by tornadoes.
Oklahoma Humane Society will use donations to help animals rendered homeless by the tornado.

I blogged about snow storms, spring storms, and earthquakes while we lived in Edmond, Oklahoma, on my old blog, Oklahoma Peach Fuzz. We had a tornado pass within a half mile of our house, but nothing like what Moore has endured. Here is an incredible list of tornadoes that have had an impact on Moore since 1896. Moore folks are remarkably resilient.

My heartfelt prayers to all who have lost dear loved ones, homes, and precious possessions.

  1. No one can appreciate the devastation until they've walked amongst the rubble. We were hit two years ago last May. Our house was still habitable, though still sustained $55K worth of damage. Every morning when I opened the blinds I was stunned by what I saw. It's tough to deal with and tougher to get over. My heart goes out to everyone in Moore.

  2. We were in the basement at the time. It went right through our backyard. It's one experience I'll never forget, I can tell you! Our house is 117 years old and access to the basement is from the outside. When we opened the door and climbed up the concrete steps to get out, it was like nothing I'd ever seen before. We had twenty five trees when we went into the basement and had three when we came out.

So glad to hear that you got a bread machine. You will LOVE it! I am terrible with yeast dough, so use mine exclusively for making dough. The results are perfect every time. Be sure to use fresh bread machine yeast. I buy mine in the jar.

    1. My goodness! I know you were grateful to be alive, but wow. I'm glad your house wasn't destroyed. My husband and I have talked about how that would feel - looking around our house and imagining all of it in shambles. It is sobering.

Thanks for the bread machine recommendation!! :)
