The Color Purple

Many of the quilters whose blogs I read have made this statement: "I am not a fan of purple", and I've begun to wonder if I am the only quilter who loves purple. I love all the varying shades of purple, from violet to mauve to eggplant. I love purple in nature, where it is amazing with oranges, reds, and pinks of sunset, dramatic with grays, greens, and blues of storm clouds, and playful in gardens with yellows of irises, purple asters, and pansies.

Although teal and blue shades are my favorite colors, purple is a close second, and I am drawn to these colors when I look for fabrics, especially batiks incorporating purple and teal.

I especially love the various shades of purple and teal my daughter chose for the quilt I promised her two years ago.

I have added a few coordinating fabrics along the way, and I am finally ready to settle on a pattern and begin cutting.

Home Is Where The Quilt Is is the name of her quilt. I found a pristine framed hand-embroidered "Home Is Where The Heart Is" at a thrift shop, removed the threads on "heart", and embroidered "Quilt" (in purple) in its place. I plan to use that as the quilt label, after I add my name, my daughter's name, and the date.

  1. I have a FQ selection of purples. I love purple in quilt fabrics and shirts also. I thought everybody did. I'm shocked that other people don't care for it. But teal is more beautiful to me also. And I love a red quilt!

  3. I am a big fan of purple, lilac, eggplant, finding them great accent colors, and often refer to myself as a "purple-ist."
